Socrates ventured into the world of Ecstatic Dance in Amsterdam in 2016. He had been DJ-ing for 13 years already in the festival circuit, bars & clubs; but this proved to be a completely new experience and also a fresh challenge which he happily accepted. He played many sets on a special party ship named Odessa and as the scene began to expand, ED took him all around the country and over the borders to France and Belgium too.
“Today about 60% of my gigs are Ecstatic Dances and for a good reason! For I really enjoy these playful dance gatherings. And it made me grow and mature as DJ in a great way.”
Socrates has always been into musical storytelling and Ecstatic Dance proved to be the perfect opportunity to do this. To take an audience on a dance journey, both exciting, explosive and intimate.. Getting high on the music rather than on “other substances.” With room for lots of different music and a dedicated audience every time, that really comes to dance and explore.
The flow of an ecstatic dance DJ set is a structured, intentional journey designed to guide participants through a series of emotional and energetic states, often resembling a “wave” or “birth and death” cycle. It typically begins slowly and builds in intensity, peaks in ecstatic release, then gently descends into stillness and reflection.
